As children from across the world head back to school this September, TV presenter Sue Perkins has spoken out in support of HOPE's child sponsorship programme and is encouraging people to consider sponsoring a disadvantaged child's education through HOPE.
Sue, who is a HOPE Patron, has been sponsoring a child in HOPE's care in Kolkata for seven years. She said: "Seeing the work of the Hope Foundation (HOPE) while filming Kolkata and The Ganges for the BBC had a profound impact on me. Many of the stories I heard about the children who were living on the streets, and the scenes I saw around me, moved me to tears. But there were also many moments of joy in meeting the smiling children that were supported by HOPE.
“In 2017, I started sponsoring a child with HOPE and I would encourage anyone who is considering signing up as a sponsor to go for it. Through sponsorship, you will be changing a child’s life and giving them the security and opportunities that they desperately need and deserve.”
Children living on the streets of Kolkata are at high risk of exploitation, trafficking and abuse, and are not afforded the right to benefit from education. Child sponsorship builds futures and changes lives. It makes a real and positive impact on the lives of disadvantaged children, the communities in which they live, and the sponsors themselves.
