        Beacon CRM Cyber-Security Incident

        Beacon CRM Cyber-Security Incident

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

        UPDATE

        19 August 2026

We recently advised our supporters about a cyber-security incident affecting Beacon – the system which HOPE UK uses to manage its supporter information.

Beacon has now informed us, that its external experts believe that the entire customer database, including attachments, were copied, and likely downloaded by an unauthorised third party. We must therefore work on the basis that information held by HOPE UK within Beacon was taken.

Beacon has addressed the vulnerability, reset the relevant credentials, and introduced additional security monitoring. It has found no continuing unauthorised access and, to date, no evidence that the information has been published or misused.

We in HOPE UK, are very sorry that this has happened. Although the incident occurred within Beacon’s systems, you trusted HOPE UK with your information, and we recognise our responsibility to keep you informed.

As previously advised, please remain alert to unexpected emails, telephone calls or messages referring to HOPE of your previous support. Do not disclose passwords, banking information or security codes, or respond to unexpected requests to make or amend a payment. If you are unsure about any communication claiming to be from HOPE UK, please do not hesitate to contact HOPE UK,  using the details on our official website:   https://thehopefoundation.org.uk/

We are continuing to review the information provided by Beacon and will contact you again if there is any material change or further action we recommend.

Thank you again for your understanding and for your continued support.

        Kind regards,

        Maura Lennon

HOPE UK has been informed by our CRM (Customer Relationship Management) provider, Beacon, of a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorised access to its systems.

Based on the latest information which we have received from Beacon on 4th August, personal data held within HOPE UK’s Beacon CRM may have been accessed. The information which we hold in our CRM, includes supporter and supplier contact details, donation history and correspondence records. HOPE UK does not store payment card, or bank details in Beacon.

HOPE UK is working closely with Beacon to understand the full impact of this incident and we are conducting our own assessment of our obligations under UK data protection law – including reporting to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) where appropriate.

We appreciate that this news may be of concern to you. Please be assured that HOPE UK is strongly committed to making sure that our supporters are informed, and that we will provide further updates as and when further information becomes available.

Please be assured that we currently have no evidence to suggest that any personal information has been accessed.

Protecting the information entrusted to HOPE UK is extremely important to us, and we thank you for your patience and understanding.

        Best wishes,

        Maura Lennon  (CEO International Operations)
