As we prepare for a month of Yoga for HOPE this June, we are delighted to feature a blog by Caroline Biddle. A HOPE child sponsor and yoga teacher, Caroline talks about giving back to the country that gave the world yoga.

I was first introduced to The Hope Foundation through a weekend of yoga in aid of the charity hosted by Simon Low about 15 years ago. Maureen (Forrest, the founder of HOPE) was there, and I found her so inspiring. As a yoga teacher myself I have always felt indebted to India and the yoga it has shared with the world, and I wanted to give something back.

Child sponsorship

Sponsoring a child felt like the right way forward and I have so enjoyed watching her grow up into a young woman. I have always found the child sponsorship report, which I receive each year, a joy to read. I get Nabodita's* school report as well as lots of wonderful details about her hobbies and interests outside of school.

I know that she aspires to be an air stewardess, and perhaps become a teacher too. I love getting her photo and know she is turning 18 this March. I really love the fact she calls me Aunty and hope one day we might meet; perhaps if she does long haul flights we might! 

Supporting HOPE through yoga

I also choose HOPE as the charity to donate to when I host a yoga retreat in the Cotswolds every year, all proceeds from that weekend go to purchasing Gifts of HOPE.

Throughout June, Yoga for HOPE will be an opportunity to celebrate International Yoga Day, enjoy the benefits of yoga, and also help to raise funds for some of the most disadvantaged street-connected children in the world. 

plight of street-connected children in Kolkata and was keen to donate to a charity that was small, and where I was assured that any donations would go directly to helping those most in need. The Hope Foundation just felt like the right charity for me to support as it is actively on the ground in Kolkata making an enormous difference, and I have been very pleased to be associated with it for many years.

I feel like I am giving a little something back to the country that gifted me yoga in my life.
