What is HOPE's Big Give raising funds for?

This year, HOPE’s Big Give Christmas Challenge is raising vital funds for our Child Watch Programme, helping us reach and support vulnerable children and families in some of Kolkata’s most disadvantaged communities.

Child Watch is centred on the care and protection of vulnerable children, building strong links between communities and education, protection and healthcare services.

The programme focuses on enrolling children aged 6–14 in formal education and helping them stay in school. For young people over 14 who are no longer attending school, Child Watch provides guidance and support to access vocational training. The team also works closely with parents, particularly fathers, to encourage greater involvement in their children’s lives and education.

Funds raised through the Big Give will help Child Watch continue reaching vulnerable children and their families, supporting more children to enrol in and stay in school, access essential protection and healthcare, and, for older children, find pathways into vocational training and a more secure future.

"Child Watch project gives children more than opportunities — it gives them a future they can believe in. Watching young people gain the protection, skills and confidence to shape their own lives is the most powerful kind of change."

         STORY OF CHANGE

15-year-old Khushi had dropped out of school after Class 4 due to financial hardship. With her family struggling to make ends meet, Khushi was often found in a very vulnerable state instead of attending school.

Gradually, she lost all interest in returning to school. Soon, a member of the Child Vigilance Group identified Khushi as a school dropout and informed the Child Watch Team. The team visited her family, counselled Khushi and her parents on the importance of education. Their guidance motivated Khushi, and she was eager to return to school. With the support of the team and her parents, Khushi was successfully re-enrolled in Class 5.

Today, Khushi attends school and is serious about her studies.

Together, we can make a difference."
