HOPE Hospital Reopens COVID Ward as Cases Surge

India recently surpassed Brazil to become the world’s second worst-hit country in the COVID-19 pandemic. A second wave of infection is currently sweeping through the country and is considerably more infectious, and deadly, than the first. It is getting worse day by day.

HOPE Hospital opened a 10 bed COVID ward in July 2020, at the request of the Government of West Bengal. When it closed in January of this year it had treated 118 COVID positive patients, 4 of whom died.

According to our colleagues at HOPE Hospital, during the first wave children mostly remained asymptomatic, but this time they are exhibiting symptoms like diarrhoea and vomiting.

The government hospitals in Kolkata cannot cope with the new surge of cases and HOPE Hospital has now reopened it’s 10 bed COVID ward. Not only that, the hospital is now converting another ward into a second COVID ward.

We need your support more than ever, so that we can continue our mission to serve the most underprivileged people in our society. We urgently require items like PPE, hand sanitiser and oxygen cylinders to treat patients in our existing ward. We also need funds and equipment so that we can get the second ward open as soon as possible. To do this we need cardiac monitors and air conditioning units.
