HOPE Hospital was established in 2008 to provide for the secondary health care needs of the street and slum dwelling individuals and communities of Kolkata. The hospital was set up in response to the failing healthcare system in Kolkata, due to a serious bed crisis, overcrowding, lack of staff and an ineffective and poor service delivery from the State run hospitals, particularly for abandoned and destitute people who call the streets of the city their home.
We are all affected by the growing COVID-19 pandemic. We know that Kolkata will be hit hard and with protective measures, like social distancing, impossible to implement in the crowded slums, we know that these areas will suffer greatly. HOPE Hospital needs to be ready to help these people, who would most likely be denied a bed in government hospitals.
