India is home to about one third of the world's illiterate people. The high cost of private education, their inability to keep up with study, and pressure to work to support their families, are the reasons given by 3 in every 4 children who drop out from school. The Hope Foundation provides creches for children below 6 years old, preparing them for school, and coaching centres to guide older children through their education, to prevent them from dropping out and becoming full time street children. We also run training and awareness sessions for teachers and parents.

The Hope Foundation's Child Sponsorship programme has been set up to help Kolkata's disadvantaged children get the education that every child deserves. A monthly payment of £20 will pay for a street child to go to school, fund them to attend a HOPE creche or after-school coaching centre, and provide them with medical care and nutrition.

There are numerous examples of street children whose lives have been transformed by this type of sponsorship; some of our young people have trained as teachers and now in turn, work to help other street children receive a good education.

In return for your support, you will be given the details of your child, and each year a photograph and their report.

You can set up child sponsorship by:

1) Setting up a monthly donation of £20 via Justgiving. Please also drop us an email to let us know that this is for child sponsorship, including your full name and address.

2) Setting up a standing order by filling out a standing order form and posting it to us at The Hope Foundation, Magnum House, High Street, Lane End, Bucks, HP14 3JG.
