Mariam Update

Picture
With the help of donations we received as a result of this article, we pledged to help Mariam and others in her situation, by establishing a rehabilitation programme for older sex workers.  Our craft training courses are now up and running, building on the scheme we already run to help younger girls at risk of entering prostitution. The programme also provides counselling, as these women have had horrendous experiences, and business support post their training.    Mariam is now working in our new Hope Hospital as a cleaner/auxiliary assistant.  In the article, Mariam said she always told her daughter that she worked in a hospital, and now the dream has come true!  Mariam's debts have been paid off and she is now looking for a new place to live.

Today the rehab scheme continues, with more 'Mariams' coming forward.  What is so poignant is that these woman thought they were past all hope of receiving help, most had no thought of a future at all.  As Andrea says it is remarkable that with so many other causes to potentially support, people felt moved to help a middle-aged prostitute.

Thank you to everyone who helped to make this happen, this would not have happened without your support.

If you would like to make a donation to the rehabilitation programme please either send a cheque payable to The Hope Foundation and mark Mariam on the back of the cheque or in your letter. Or you can email us to discuss other payment options.
